2008 Spring Edition of our Parish Newsletter

From the Pastor

By Fr. John Appiah
In every age, place, and time there are events that define a people. For the Christian it is our Lord, Jesus Christ, who is King, victorious over life and death. We know that Jesus Christ lives. He is risen from the dead. He is seated at the right hand of God the Father and invites us to live in Him.
We the people of Notre Dame are hopeful because of Jesus Christ. He has called us to live in union with Him. In the name of the one who gives us hope for the life to come, we can celebrate because of events that give us hope for the future.

Undoubtedly our successful election for the Pastoral Parish Council is such an event. The Council will continue to give meaning which in turn will culminate in pastoral decisions that will help us be devoted to serving Jesus Christ in the Church of Notre Dame that we love. Likewise, it should help us live the gospel message right here and also serve the needs of our families, friends, neighbors, and enemies.

Some of the tasks currently under consideration include the sign for Notre Dame Catholic Church at the front. A more visible sign that will include Mass and Confession times has been suggested. More suggestions are welcome and will be considered.

The time has come for us to begin work on the pictorial directory for Notre Dame. Suggestions favor that it is done “in-house”; therefore, it will be similar to last pictorial directory.

In speaking with Darlene Gregg and some parents, I wish to brain storm about our Sunday nursery for the future. What improvement does it need? What would it take? Please advise me!

It was our hope that Fr. Alexis, the pastor at our sister parish, Immaculate Conception in Haiti, will visit Notre Dame during Lent. Well Lent is long gone and no news or mention of visa. Fr. Alexis may or may not get the visa for the near future. However, should he be granted the visa in the near future, Notre Dame will facilitate his visit. Therefore, I take this opportunity to announce a mini-pilgrimage to our sister parish at Immaculate Conception to coincide with the Feast of Immaculate Conception on December 8, 2008. (We will leave for Haiti on Thursday, December 4, and return to the U.S. on Thursday, December 11.) All interested parties please let me know.

Thank you for your attention and consideration in all matters with our Church, Notre Dame. I am excited and hopeful for the future because of God and all of us who serve the Lord.

We, the People of Notre Dame Catholic Church, exist for the Mission of Christ, which is the building up of God’s Kingdom
